The Lymphatic System is our body’s “garbage disposal”. It is a major component of our immune system. Its job is to help rid the body of excess waste, fluid, foreign substances and toxins. In order for The Lymphatic System to function properly it must rely on routine physical movement, deep diaphragmatic breathing and/or manual, hands-on, manipulation – ie. “MLD” massages.
Lymphedema is chronic (long-term) swelling; most often in the extremities of the body – arms and legs. Lymphedema is an abnormal accumulation of protein-rich fluid, lymph fluid – which contains only a small % of water. The excess Lymphatic fluid builds-up within the interstitial (tissue) spaces of the body. Lymphedema can be a congenital condition (primary) or an acquired condition (secondary).
